First of all happy new year and thanks to everyone who's supporting Beat Back Records and helping us to do what we do !

We have lots of exciting things happening in 2012, including the release of Ricta's debut LP 'Snacks & Deception' which has a provisional release date of May 26th... A new mixtape project from Idyllic (more details coming soon) and some great live shows are also on the horizon ! (Check the menu bar link above for dates).

Were also working on a range of other projects such as new music videos, release formats and features, the goods are coming... Ricta & Idyllic were at Flipside Studios last week working on Ricta's album ;)

We'd also like to give a special shout out to DJ Mr.Tea who is currently travelling around Europe on a Beat Back & SIKA promo mission and recently played his first international set in Switzerland !

Ricta will be performing before Wu-Tang Clan's GZA at The Ballroom in Birmingham, UK on 16th February 2012 more details will be made available closer to the event.

Born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in every borough of New York City, The GZA's workmanship can be found three albums deep with classics dating back to 1991 including the albums Words From The Genius, the gold-selling Liquid Swords and Beneath The Surface. Before his days of microphone notoriety, GZA found himself, during the early ages of rap music, travelling throughout New York City sharpening his rap skills in scattered rhyme battles. "I've studied rap in every borough," the GZA says proudly. "I've been rhyming before a lot of these cats out here were born. We've [Wu Tang Clan] always drank, ate and slept hip-hop. I love it." On his latest blockbuster album Legend Of The Liquid Sword, The GZA makes reference to his hip- hop foundation on the reflective Fam (Members Only) "I grew up around B-Boys, DJs, MCs, through rap, never thinking in ways of TV," the Genius raps. "It was strictly all about magnificent rhyme clout."

Snacks & Deception LP Update #2

What up, I thought I'd write a little something in person to give you all a quick update on what's been going on with my LP and if you didn't know... I am currently working on my first album ! Aight so here's the deal... i got about 10 tracks that I'm ready to hit the studio with which is gonna be happening around Jan / Feb 2012, along with the other songs I'm still working on. A lot of the production on the album will be by myself but i also reached out to a few heads that i thought were dope... first off 'Jusoul' out of Germany is doing two tracks and I'm in the process of confirming some other producers at the minute.

The biggest announcement I can put out right now that is completley confirmed is the posse cut which for the minute we nicknamed 'The Atlantic Anthem', It's produced by 'The Returners' straight out of Poland and will feature 'Ricta', 'Craig G' (of the Juice Crew), 'Genesis Elijah', 'Dizzy Dustin' (of Ugly Duckling), 'Idyllic' & 'Reks' ! You can't say I'm not trying to bring you all that dope ish !

Of course when it's out you will be able to buy the LP from all your usual iTunes, Amazon etc,... upon release the first 500 limited-release CD copies are gonna be hand signed and come with something a little bit extra which were yet to decide on, but when the pre-order is up make sure you get on that !

On a final note although the year ain't done quite yet I'd also like to thank everyone that came out to any of our shows this year and everyone who purchased a copy of the 'Expocate' EP, its more than appreciated ! keep on keepin' on and don't touch that dial ! Pz. Ricta.

Ricta confirms Yaggfu Front on new album

Yesterday Ricta confirmed that members of the legendary North Carolina based Hip Hop group Yaggfu Front will be making an appearance on his debut album.

Yaggfu Front are notable for being the first North Carolina based hip-hop group to be signed to a major record labe. Their group name is an acronym which stands for You Are Gonna Get Fucked Up (if you) Front, they consist of members Spin 4th, D'Ranged & Damaged and Jingle Bel. Working as late night Djs at NCSU Radio Station WKNC, they landed a record deal with Mercury Records and released their first single,"Looking For A Contract",in 1993. In 1994,they released their album, "Action Packed Adventure", a conceptual album with jazzy influences. The album received 3.5 "Mics" out of 5 in the Hip-Hop magazine The Source(February 1994). After releasing a few singles, including the Diamond D featured "Slappin' Suckas Silly Remix" and a successful album, they bowed out of the game. Along with many other rappers who signed to major labels at the time, they parted company with their record label (Mercury Records). In 2002, around the time members of the group were working with the DemiGodz, they released "The Secret Tapes" a compilation of material recorded during their most successful stint in the game, 1992 to 1996.
